All In For Washington is a statewide effort to clean up the tax code so that all communities in Washington thrive. We know we can do great things when we all chip in our resources together to achieve the amazing things we could never accomplish alone.
CAMPAIGN STORY
Washington is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. For most of us, there’s nowhere we’d rather live. We can lead the nation in education, healthcare, prosperity, and overall quality of life. But we can’t achieve this vision without adequately investing in these foundations. You can’t get something for nothing. When we all invest together in the foundations that benefit all of us, our communities thrive.
Our tax code is completely upside down. We rely too much on sales taxes to fund the foundations our communities need to thrive. That means that working families and the middle class pay a far greater share of their income in taxes – as much as 7 times the rate the wealthiest pay. That’s because powerful special interests have manipulated the tax code by inserting tax breaks and special deals that benefit themselves.
It doesn’t have to be this way. If we clean up the tax code and get rid of tax breaks and special deals that only benefit those at the top, we’ll have more resources to invest in the foundations that benefit all of us, like excellent schools, good infrastructure, and quality healthcare. Together, we can pass new rules that make the wealthy and powerful pay what they owe and invest more in our communities.
Let’s work for a Washington where all of us can thrive, not just the wealthy.
We need real solutions that are sustainable, equitable, and adequate. Our tax code should reflect our values, not the desires of powerful special interests. Join us and let’s work together to create a comprehensive solution that fixes our upside down tax code.
More than 600 tax breaks and special deals are buried in our tax code. Many of them don’t have restrictions or expiration dates, leaving us with less resources to invest in our communities. We’re leaving money on the table that we could use to build affordable housing, excellent schools, infrastructure.
Powerful special interests and the wealthy have reduced their own tax bills at the expense of the rest of us by managing to avoid paying taxes on money they make through capital gains profits. Correcting this would begin to fix our upside down tax system, and provide the revenue to invest in our qualify of life.
